POS Menu Programming: Migrating & Rebuilding POS Data
Multiple legacy & cloud-based POS systems · New-customer migrations · Existing-customer menu updates

The Issue
Restaurant customers regularly needed their menus built, migrated, or updated in their POS systems.
For new customers, I often pulled menu data from their previous POS system and rebuilt it in the new one. Source systems varied, and clean export/import options were not always available.
For existing customers, I regularly handled menu changes and updates as their businesses evolved.
Troubleshooting
I handled menu programming across both legacy and newer POS systems, including:
Linga · SpotOn · DinerWare · Entrée POS · VST POS · Clover · SumUp POS · DinerDaddy
For new-customer migrations, I reviewed the existing POS setup and manually rebuilt the required menu structure where necessary.
This included:
- Departments
- Items and prices
- Modifiers
- Modifier groups
- Screen groups
- Tax rates
- Menu categories
- Other POS menu configuration
I also checked the relationships between items, modifiers, pricing, taxes, and screens so the rebuilt menu matched the customer’s existing setup.
For existing customers, I regularly handled menu programming and updates, including adding and modifying items, prices, modifiers, taxes, and screen configurations.
Resolution
After programming or rebuilding a menu, I validated the configuration in the POS environment to make sure the correct information reached the terminals and behaved as expected.
Where required, I also checked related KDS and printer routing to ensure menu changes worked correctly across the restaurant’s operational setup.
Impact
This work supported both new-customer onboarding and ongoing customer operations, including a concentrated 6-week migration sprint of approximately 240 dedicated hours.
Restaurants could move into the new POS environment with their menus rebuilt and operationally ready, while existing customers could keep their menus accurate as products, pricing, taxes, and other business requirements changed.
